Over the years, thousands of people have visited Colorado's Chapel on the Rock  at Camp St. Malo - maybe you are next.

At an elevation of 8500 feet in north central Colorado, you will find the St. Malo Chapel on the Rock at Allenspark, Colorado, just 15 miles from Estes Park on the boundary of Rocky Mountain National Park.

Through the years, Camp St. Malo was the sight of camps for boys and girls as well as a religious retreat and conference center until a fire destroyed the center and mudslides destroyed much of the landscapes.

One of the most notable facts about Chapel on the Rock is that In 1993 Pope St.John Paul II prayed in the chapel and hiked on the surrounding trails.

Today, this beautiful stone-built structure, built in the 1930s is preserved-  receiving daily visitors as well as hosting Catholic weddings.

You don't have to be Catholic to visit the chapel or to appreciate its beauty and what it represents. The chapel is open most days from 10am to 4pm. For those that are of the Catholic faith, there is a mass every Wednesday a 12 noon.

In recent year there have been a number of renovations on the property including the Pope Saint John Paul II Pavilion and Memorial Trail. It looks like a very cool place to visit.

Getting to Chapel on the Rock from Grand Junction is as easy as taking Interstate 70 to the Central City Parkway, exit 243 near Idaho Springs.
