The Montrose Police Department is assisting BLM investigation into the vandalism which happened sometime between Monday, June 25 and Friday, June 29.

The vandals tagged rocks from the parking lot to the Potholes swimming area. While investigating the case, BLM officials are also working on determining the cost and scope of clean-up.

For those of us who enjoy the natural beauty of western Colorado, this is personal in a way that is the same as if someone vandalized our home. The cleanup will be both extensive and expensive.

Finding those responsible for the vandalism is important and absolutely necessary to ensure they're caught before they do it again. It's also important they face the consequences of their actions.

Anyone with information about the vandalism or the identity of those involved are asked to contact the BLM law enforcement at 970-244-3111.

Vandalism of public lands and natural resources is a federal offense and can lead to fines up to $100,000 and one year in jail.
