Ashley Furniture Honors Bet in Texas A&M-South Carolina Game

When retail stores come up with a promotion to help increase business, store managers hope the event is proven successful. As it turns out, store officials at an Ashley Furniture branch in Texas got more than they probably bargained for with their most recent promotion.

The Ashley Furniture store in College Station offered all furniture purchased from August 16 through August 27 free of charge if #21-ranked Texas A&M would beat #9 South Carolina by 10 points or more.

One item worth mentioning – the Aggies were a 10½-point underdog in Thursday’s game.

Final score – Texas A&M 52, South Carolina 28.

Ashley Furniture store owner Mark Wilks told ESPN.com that more than 600 people bought items during the selected time period, and the sales purchases totaled more than $1 million.

According to ESPN.com, Wilks said that thanks to the promotion, his store had its best month of sales in the eight years it has been open.

Fortunately for Wilks, the furniture store took out insurance for the promotion to help offset the expense.
