A house on North Avenue in Grand Junction is the latest to meet its maker. A handful of dilapidated North Avenue houses have bit the dust over the last few months. Did you notice this one was missing?

This was the scene yesterday as crews demolished the house in front of Auto Zone at 2848 North Avenue.

Speaking as a life-long resident of Grand Junction, I can't remember a time when this house wasn't there. It's been there since... dirt. No, actually, before dirt.

If you stop to think about it, this house, like any other, was at one point and time brand new. Yes, at some point, somebody sat at a table at and signed their name about 75 times as they filled out the paperwork for the deed to their new house.

Well, there goes another landmark. It wasn't pretty, but it was instantly identifiable to anyone who's lived in Grand Junction for any length of time. You could say to someone, "Keep heading down North Avenue until you pass the old house by Auto Zone, and then make a left" and they would know exactly what you were talking about.

Okay, so you can now say "Turn left at Auto Zone" but that doesn't have quite the same hometown feel, now does it?

Well, another one bites the dust. Which Grand Junction house will be next?
