Co-founder of the news sharing site Reddit and activist for free online content, Aaron Swarz, 26, has been found dead.

According to CBS News, a spokesperson for New York's Medical Examiner states that Aaron Swartz was found in his Brooklyn apartment Friday (January 11) dead from hanging himself.

Swartz, also the co-founder of Demand Progress, was a young prodigy who helped create an early version of RSS as a teenager.

Back in 2011, Swartz was arrested and charge in Boston for stealing millions of scientific journals from a computer arhcive at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He pleaded not guilty and his trial for federal computer fraud were set to begin next month.

He would have faced more than 50 years in prison and up to $4 million in fines.
