It was on this date in 1966 that Darrell Lance Abbott came into the world; taken from us way too early, I thought what better time to stop and remember the great guitarist we called Dimebag.

Dimebag picked up his first guitar at the age of 12 and never put it down. He was with out a doubt one of the finest guitarist I have ever seen live. The man had a powerful muse that poured from his guitar like a pyroclastic flow.

I saw Pantera in a small venue in St. Louis and looking back I’m so glad I did. Dimebag was a force on stage ripping through riffs as if he was conducting a symphony and he was. The man could take the energy of the crowd and turn it into a sweet eruption on his axe.

When you look at the history of music, sports or art there are always stars but every now and we get to see someone who has surpassed even those stars around them and that is what Dimebag did. He didn’t jus write his name in the pages of rock history but burned it into the pages with a branding iron.

Even though he was taken from us in a senseless act of violence his light lives on. Take a moment today raise your horns and remember a true legend on the guitar Darrell Lance Abbott.
