The Grand Junction 7th Street construction project is still not finished.

I was scheduled to be up in Parachute this morning to tour the festival grounds and the site of the "Rally, Rumble" & Rock" event September 1st starring Bret Michaels  I left out of the radio station and headed over to 7th to cut up to Horizon Drive when I hit the construction. I had forgotten it was still going on. It appears it's going to continue for some time.

The city planned to have the project wrapped up before school started. That didn't happen. Traffic is still down to one lane between North and Orchard Avenues. Try to avoid the area for a while longer. The city now says they expect to complete the project sometime towards the end of September.

Get ready, there may be more orange barrels in your future. If the fall ballot initiative is approved CDOT has several plans in the works. They hope to work on the I-70 business loop and make it three lanes in each direction. Another project is some safety improvements, turn lanes, and more on Highway 6 between Palisade and Fruita. Highway 141 could be widened to four lanes. Then there are the I-70 and 29 Road exchange. Finally, they want to correct the Debeque stretch of I-70. That curvy stretch of road is where a lot of wrecks happen.
