The trampoline is not really that old in the history of man. Life Nets were the first trampoline-like item that firemen used to catch people jumping from a burning building in 1887. I guess if the house is on fire and there is only one way out, I’m jumping out the window.

The first modern trampoline was built in 1936 by George Nissen and Larry Griswold. Both men were in gymnastics and diving and took notice of trapeze artists using a tight net.

 

Nissen and Griswold stretched a piece of canvas with coiled springs on an iron frame and the trampoline was born.
